There are many reasons why females live longer than males. Some scientists believe it has to do with the different hormones present in each gender. Others say that it’s because women are typically more careful about their health and take better care of themselves. Still others believe that the X chromosome provides some sort of longevity advantage for women.
Whatever the reason, there is no doubt that on average, women do tend to outlive men. This has been demonstrated time and again in studies around the world. In fact, according to a study published by The Lancet in 2012, life expectancy for women is now 81 years worldwide, compared to just 74 years for men.
This difference in lifespan can be seen even within certain countries. For example, while Japanese men have a life expectancy of 79 years, Japanese women can expect to live until 86 years old – a seven-year difference! And in the United States, where both genders have an average lifespan of 78 years, women still outlive men by five full years.
So what does this mean for you? Well, if you’re female then congratulations – you may have quite a few more goodyears ahead of you than your male counterparts! But even if you’re not female yourself,it’s important to remember that when making decisions about your health and lifestyle choices. After all, living longer is something we can all benefit from !
