According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. It is estimated that one in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. While not all cases of breast cancer are preventable, there are five warning signs that every woman should be aware of: a lump or mass in the breast; swelling or enlargement of the breasts; skin irritation or dimpling; nipple discharge other than milk; and redness or scaliness on the nipple.
If you experience any of these symptoms, it does not necessarily mean that you have breast cancer, but it is important to see your doctor right away for a diagnosis. Early detection is key when it comes to treating this type of cancer, so don't hesitate to get checked out if you have any concerns.
